Privacy Policy
This Policy explains what Retite collects and how we use it. Retite is operated by Retite Ltd ("we", "us"), the data controller. We keep data collection to what the App needs to work and to improve.
What we collect
Account: email and, if provided by Apple/Google, your name.
Learning data: words you study, progress, and review schedule.
Onboarding: your native language, interests, and how you heard about us.
Text you enter: words and phrases you look up, translate, or ask us to pronounce.
Device & usage: app version, device/OS information, IP address, and diagnostic
and crash data to keep the App reliable.
App analytics: events describing how you use the App — the onboarding steps you
reach, whether you go on to create an account, and in-app actions such as searches and reviews —
together with an approximate location (country and city) that our analytics provider derives from
your IP address. Before you create an account these events are tied to an identifier generated for
your device; afterwards they are tied to your account.
How we use it
To provide and personalise the App (dictionary entries and glosses in your language, translations, pronunciation, and spaced-repetition reviews), to keep it stable, and to understand where our learners come from. We also use analytics to see where people get stuck — for example, which step of onboarding they leave at — so that we can improve it.
Third-party AI & text processing
When you look up a word or request a translation, the text you enter is sent to third-party providers that produce the result, and dictionary content is generated using an AI language model. By using these features you consent to this processing. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into lookups or translations.
Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers that help run the App, each for the purpose shown:
Apple, Google — sign-in.
Groq — AI generation of dictionary entries from the words you look up.
DeepL — translating the text and context you submit.
ElevenLabs, Microsoft Azure — text-to-speech pronunciation.
Datamuse — word autocomplete suggestions.
Postmark — sending account emails (e.g. verification codes).
Amplitude — product analytics (usage events, device and app information, and an
approximate location derived from your IP address); processed in the European Union.
Sentry — crash and error diagnostics (may include IP address and technical data).
MongoDB Atlas and our hosting provider — storing your data.
We do not sell your personal data.
Retention & your rights
We keep your account data while your account is active. Diagnostic logs are kept for a short period (about three weeks) and then deleted automatically. You can delete your account and all associated personal data directly in the App (Settings → Delete account); you may also contact us to access or delete your data. Deletion is subject to any legal obligations.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
